A company that cares
Recognised for Putting People First
Stepnell is proud to hold Investors in People Gold, using the standard to continuously improve our employee experience. Developing our people isn’t just an initiative — it’s how we work. We ensure every colleague is supported, motivated, and given the tools to thrive at every stage of their career.
Award-Winning Training and Development
Our approach has been recognised by Constructing Excellence, winning both the People Development Award and Training Initiative of the Year.
At Stepnell:
- Continuous learning and meaningful development are at the heart of our culture
- Career pathways have clear milestones linked to performance, development, and living our company values
- Regular check-ins with line managers keep your growth on track
- Our mix of in-house and external training builds real capability — expanding skill sets, strengthening knowledge, encouraging new ideas, and improving performance across the business
That commitment to development is reflected in the experiences of our apprentices and trainees:
“I love having the opportunity to put what I learn at university into practice at work. Applying the theories and concepts from my studies to real-world projects not only deepens my understanding but also enhances my ability to contribute meaningfully to the team. This hands-on experience bridges the gap between academia and industry.”
Josh Morgan, Degree Apprentice Quantity Surveyor
Apprenticeships at Stepnell
We’re passionate about growing future talent and helping people build Skills for Life — practical, professional, and personal skills for a long, successful career in construction.
Why Choose an Apprenticeship?
- Work on real projects from day one
- Gain recognised qualifications while earning
- Be treated as a valued team member, not an observer
- 20% of our workforce are trainees, apprentices, and graduates — we focus on long-term careers
From the very beginning, apprentices are immersed in real projects and real teamwork:
From the very beginning, apprentices are immersed in real projects and real teamwork:
“Working on site alongside a team gives you the opportunity to see a project through and understand how each profession comes together to run the project.”
Cerys White, Apprentice Quantity Surveyor
And with every project comes variety and new opportunities to grow:
“I love the variety of my role. No two days are the same but also at Stepnell no two projects are the same, so it is really exciting for what the future holds.”
Ben Sandhu, Degree Apprentice Quantity Surveyor
Making a Difference
Our apprentices actively contribute to communities by:
- Supporting schools and colleges, mentoring T Level students, and attending careers events
- Volunteering locally, e.g., restoring the Dunchurch churchyard
- Providing career guidance through mock interviews and student talks
We match apprentices with the right teams and mentors to develop confidence, teamwork, leadership, and communication skills alongside technical training.
For many, the most rewarding part of the role is seeing the real-world impact of their work:
“The fact that I get to see something real come out of nothing. We are building this place from the ground up, and in this case, it is going to be a home for kids who need it. That is a great feeling.”
Savannah Sparre, T Level Placement
