Work officially begins on a new community in Stow

An official sod cutting ceremony signals the start of work by Stepnell at the site of a new bespoke retirement community in Stow-on-the-Wold.

Retirement living providers, Brio Retirement Living, part of Places for People, hosted the ceremony on the 30th August at its Fosse Way site. During the event, Karl Hallows, Director of Development and Sales at Brio Retirement Living and Stepnell’s Regional Director, Chris Faulkner took part in an official ground-breaking ceremony.

Once completed, the village in Stow, which will be Brio’s second site, will feature a mixture of 106 new homes made up of one, two and three-bedroom apartments and two and three-bedroom bungalows. The first phase of the village is due for completion in summer 2019.

Karl Hallows, director of development and sales at Brio Retirement Living, said:

“It is our aim to build, not just housing for retirees, but a truly thriving community that serves as a comfortable, enjoyable and inspiring alternative to traditional retirement living. We recognise Stow is already a desirable place to live for many people of all ages and we are keeping that in mind as the site progresses. Locals have expressed a lot of positive interest in the development and we’d encourage the community to reach out to us whenever they wish.

Retirees of today are looking for a much more holistic offering than ever before and as retirement providers we have a duty to provide options which support that.

“Our communities are designed around promoting and supporting independence, shared experiences and an active, healthy later life. However, all our homes are also future-proofed, so homeowners can look forward to a supportive later life, people who otherwise might have moved into a care home, as that was the only option available to them.”

Homeowners at Brio’s village in Stow will have access to a wide range of community facilities and communal areas set in beautiful landscaped gardens, such as an exercise trail, raised bed gardens, Brio’s brasserie and bar Slate & Grain, a purpose-built social space for hobbies and pastimes, club lounge, fitness suite and spa and a BBQ area. A shuttle bus will also be available for shopping trips and excursions.
