Stepnell completes Edwardstow Court

Stepnell has completed Edwardstow Court in Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire.  The new £5.4 million ultra-modern state-of-the-art care centre will offer specialist dementia and residential care, welcoming its first residents in early 2018.

Designed by Hunters architectural practice for leading care home provider The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT), the three-storey, 48-bedroom care home features stylish and comfortable, modern surroundings arranged in small ‘households’ comprising eight bedrooms. Each household will have its own relaxing and sociable living space including a sitting room, kitchen and dining area. Among a range of communal facilities for residents are a hair and beauty salon, a shop and a café-tearoom where they can entertain guests. The care centre’s large single bedrooms all have en-suite shower facilities with assisted bathrooms also available for each household.

In keeping with its surroundings, the sensitively-designed care home has an elegant and traditional Cotswold stone exterior. The roof is partly tiled in natural stone while also incorporating an environmentally-friendly living ‘green roof’ section made of sedum plants which absorb rainwater and provide a habitat for wildlife. Outside, there is an attractive landscaped and secure sensory garden and communal gardens which may be reached from the café.

Construction director Bill Haynes says:

“This is a fantastic development where residents will benefit from the very best dementia and residential care in a friendly and attractive ‘home from home’ living environment. Our team is thrilled to have brought their expertise to this project, the seventh which Stepnell has completed for OSJCT, and proud that Edwardstow Court sets such an exemplary standard.”
