Stepnell-built School Boarding House shortlisted for RIBA Award

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has shortlisted the new Stepnell-built West House 5 sixth form boarding house at Stowe School in Buckinghamshire for a prestigious RIBA Award.

Constructed by Stepnell and designed by MICA Architects, the new girls’ two- and three-storey boarding accommodation provides ensuite study bedrooms for 24 students with living facilities, common rooms and garden and terraces. The stunning new scheme which is located within a woodland fringe, is arranged over two blocks connected by a glazed bridge on the first floor. The main block is two-storey with external terraces between the first floor accommodation. The second block is partially sunken providing three floors, a House Master’s flat and study bedrooms.

Stepnell, which completed the West House 5 scheme last year, is currently delivering its fifth construction project at Stowe School, a £5.5 million, 60-bed new boys’ boarding house due for completion later this year.
