Pavilion Building, Summer Fields School

Oxford

The creation of a new state-of-the-art multi-use Sports Pavilion for one of the country’s top preparatory schools

This distinctive two-storey steel framed 1,050m2 building houses modern changing rooms and cloakroom facilities, a spacious and adaptable ground floor foyer and a large multi-purpose first floor suite with a spectators’ balcony overlooking the school grounds.

The Pavilion has photovoltaic roofing, solar heating, solar reflective glass, heat recovery systems, LED lighting and high efficiency boilers.

Stepnell held several talks with pupils and staff in the school’s auditorium regarding the impact the build would have during different stages, with question and answer sessions to address any concerns.

As part of our delivery solution we undertook value engineering exercises which resulted in relocating the boiler room in order to simplify the phasing of the works. This ensured the school were not inconvenienced when the new boilers came on line. The revised location also improved the efficiency of the building.
