A £9.4 million care development in Cheltenham involving both new build construction and the conversion of a Grade II Listed Building
This challenging scheme has created 57 brand new extra care apartments with 6 additional extra care dwellings and communal facilities integrated in the Grade II Listed Cotswold Court. The project also included the construction of associated car parking areas and external works.
Its challenges included maintaining an existing brick built sewer that run across the site and required a build over agreement with Severn Trent Water, as well as ensuring that the original integrity of the Listed building was maintained within the design, which was achieved by maintaining close consultation with the local Conservation Officer.
The new build extra care apartments harnessed a traditional masonry structure with concrete planks and single ply roofing. The existing Grade II Listed building was then refurbished to conform with its original features by adopting traditional building techniques such as lime render to the external walls.
