The successful delivery of our fifth project for Stowe School, creating an exceptional £5.5 million new boys boarding house, ‘New Cobham’

Framing the School Chapel, Cobham is the first purpose-built Boys’ Boarding House at Stowe in 25 years and developed as a complementary pairing to Queen’s and Stanhope Girls’ Houses completed in 2009.

  • Client:

    Stowe School Ltd

  • Architect:

    ADP

  • Programme:

    70 weeks

The new high quality purpose built three-storey building provides accommodation for up to 60 boys, in single, double and four-bed study bedrooms with ensuite, high quality staff dwellings, common rooms, terrace and garden areas. The associated landscaping responds to the historic campus, defining the chapel courtyard, reinstating vistas, and strengthening the tree belt to conceal the development from the historic gardens.

The main construction was a concrete frame with exposed visual concrete detailing of the highest craftsmanship for the two internal staircases, columns and ceiling soffits.  Externally the building is a combination of large bath stone sections and a render finish, with Schuco curtain walling and windows and a zinc roof finish – all giving the exterior a fantastic look.
