National Grid Refurbishment Centre

Demonstrating our core building and civil engineering skills at an important part of National Grid’s distribution network

Whilst not a power station or substation, the Leicester Refurbishment Centre provides just as an important role in National Grid’s network – here they undertake the refurbishment of circuit breakers from all over the country before returning them to service.

The centre had, over the years, outgrown the original building and storage areas were slowly moved outside until no internal stores existed. It was therefore decided that a new building was required for the storage of the circuit breakers and a 625m2 steel framed and steel clad building was created with the centre remaining fully operational throughout.

We also undertook Phase 2 of this project which involved the complete reconstruction of the access way, additional parking and extensive foul and storm drainage whilst at all times keeping access to the Centre for delivery vehicles and staff.
