Lidl Store

Oakham, Rutland

The  second of five Lidl stores delivered by Stepnell as part of Lidl’s ongoing expansion and generation plans in the UK

Following the successful of the Lidl scheme in Kings Heath, Stepnell were awarded a second scheme for the design, construction and commissioning of a new Lidl store in Oakham.

This £3.18 million project has created a new 23,411 ft2 single storey retail unit, which includes a bakery outlet and car park.

The building consists of a structural steel frame, mono pitch roof, built on ground bearing slabs and includes a spine wall to separate the store and back of house offices, toilets and delivery of storage facilities.

For completion of the building envelope, Stepnell imported composite cladding panels, Poroton blocks and glazed curtain wall frontage, which collectively enabled the works to be delivered under a fast paced programme.

External works included the design and construction of two new Section 278’s for access to and from the car parking facilities, as well as working with The Environment Agency for Tree Protection Orders. Precast loading bays and a high volume of drainage attenuation underground were provided by adopting porous block paving to car parking bays.

As a result of our proven experience of delivering high quality stores and the excellent relationships developed with Lidl, we have recently completed our fifth scheme for them – a new Lidl store in Droitwich.
