HDD Commercial & Retail Units

Edwalton, Nottingham

A £2.3 million new build, commercial and retail unit scheme in Edwalton, Nottingham

Delivered for a repeat customer, the modern design features a mix of cedar battening, wood effect cladding and colour render to each unit. Completed in just seven months, the construction method used was a traditional steel frame and block work structure.

Further works on the site included a new entrance road, car parking and external landscaping, featuring a mix of bird and bat boxes supporting the local habitat, with acoustic fencing installed to compliment adjoining boundaries.

  • Architect:

    West Hart Partnership

  • Contract Value:

    £2.3 million

  • Programme:

    28 weeks

The new retail units will occupy a two storey Busy Bees nursery for day childcare, a Subway, Greggs, Pets Corner and a Costa Coffee drive thru’ which is a separate building with car parking.

The restricted nature of the site posed some challenges to the logistics of the build and working closely and effectively with adjoining businesses was paramount to delivering the works on programme.

The accurate coordination of multiple services entering the compact site was also a key task for the site management team along with stabilising the ground.

Commencing in May 2020, the site remained open throughout the Covid-19 restrictions, complying with day to day changes in government guidelines, finding new ways of working to keep employees and supply chain members safe at all times.

“We are delighted that the project was delivered on time, on budget and to a high standard. The Stepnell team were helpful, polite and friendly, with a can-do attitude they took ownership and came up with innovative solutions to issues on site. I would not hesitate to recommend Stepnell and would be happy to work with the team again on future schemes.”
