Bridge 1, Broadway

Worcestershire

Repairing a steel bridge to enable Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway trains to run from Broadway Station for the first time in fifty years

The existing steel bridge had been repeatedly struck by over-height vehicles causing damage to the main structural beams. Our works therefore comprised cutting out and replacing damaged members, before repainting, as well as the installation of additional warning signs.

Our works necessitated a full road closure, which was successfully managed with local residents and businesses by the regular liaison of our Site Manager.

In order to meet the tight programme and to ensure the bridge would be re-opened for the launch of the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway trains running from Broadway Station, our solution included the use of heaters and lights to enable painting to be undertaken during inclement weather, and arranging for our sub-contractors to work overtime, which also enabled the road to be re-opened ahead of programme to the delight of the local community.

“Despite the work being technically difficult it was completed two weeks early and enabled the road to be re-opened quicker to the relief of us and the local population and businesses.”
