Bayards Hill School

Oxford, Oxfordshire

Sensitively programming works to create modern educational facilities with improved layout, increased accessibility and greater energy efficiency for the school

This scheme included the construction of new single-storey extensions to existing teaching blocks, and the construction of a new two-storey infill block linking the buildings used by Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils.

Our works also included the refurbishment of a number of areas, which included the two-storey Key Stage 2 block, the administration area and accommodation used by County Music Service.  We also upgraded all of the mechanical and electrical supplies throughout the school.

Prior to commencing on site, a huge asbestos removal programme was undertaken. In addition, the school requested that Stepnell prioritise certain aspects of the works in order to benefit the school. These requests were all accommodated within our programme and the scheme finished on time.

Stepnell liaised closely with the school, which remained operational throughout the duration of our works, and our client, to ensure school holidays were utilised to the fullest and disruption to the school’s activities were kept to an absolute minimum.  Temporary walkways and access to playgrounds and corridors were all closely coordinated with the school. We also divided the works into two major phases incorporating many other smaller phases and moved the contractor’s compound to improve efficiency.
