Nottingham team shortlisted for Leicestershire's leading Property and Construction Awards

Two schemes built by Nottingham-based construction specialist Stepnell have been shortlisted for the ProCon Leicestershire Awards 2018, which showcase the region’s best property and construction projects.

The prestigious ProCon awards, judged by a panel of leading construction experts, focus on projects that demonstrate an innovative and creative approach to property development, incorporate sustainable features, design excellence and exceptional construction quality.

Stepnell has been a member of the ProCon professional construction network for five years and each year since has entered the ProCon Leicestershire Awards which are the county’s biggest celebration of the built environment and the people who develop, design and construct winning developments.

In Leicester, Stepnell’s new student accommodation scheme in Princess Road East for Zone Developments has been shortlisted in the Large Residential project category. The high-specification building provides 110 self-contained studio bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, plus a cinema room and gym. The scheme incorporated energy-saving technology, including heat recovery ventilation systems and air source heat pumps for hot water heating. Stepnell has since been awarded a multi-million-pound contract by Zone Developments to transform former commercial buildings on the corner of West Walk and Princess Road into 85 self-contained studio bedrooms, and a scheme to build a 91-bedroom student accommodation building with a gym, cinema room and study pods at De Montfort Mews.

The firm’s £3.9 million construction of the new Memorial Centre at Mountsorrel village, Leicestershire, has also been shortlisted in the Large Non-Residential building category. The project was carried out on behalf of Mountsorrel War Memorial Trust and Mountsorrel Parish Council, and designed as a tribute to the local people who died in the First and Second World Wars. It features attractive and flexible community facilities including a main hall which can be used as a theatre, a café, two shops and a crèche, plus a music and arts performance practice room, meeting and conference rooms.

The winners will be announced at the 16th ProCon Leicestershire Awards on 15 November, at The King Power Stadium in Leicester.

“We’re absolutely delighted that two of our Nottingham office projects are shortlisted in Leicestershire’s most important construction awards,” says Thomas Sewell, Stepnell regional director. “I’m proud that the fantastic work of our talented construction teams has been recognised and we’re all keeping our fingers crossed for a winning result in November.”
