Cordwell appoint Stepnell for Walsall Development Scheme

Cordwell Property Group have announced that they have appointed Stepnell to deliver their key mixed use scheme for the regeneration of a major town centre site in Walsall.

Wisemore Central will bring a Travelodge Hotel, McDonalds, and a further 15,000 sq ft of leisure and retail premises to the town, connecting the ‘western’ quarter as part of a wider ‘community-spirited’ hub.

The £7.8 million development will see the delivery of a 60-bed hotel, two-storey McDonalds restaurant, Explore Learning, GDK and Costa, with a further unit to let, with the scheme generating between 100 and 120 full- and part-time posts.

John Rawlinson, regional director for West Midlands-based office, says: “We are delighted to be working with Cordwell to deliver this major mixed-use development. This important scheme will make a significant contribution to further regeneration in Walsall, and also enables Stepnell to provide community benefits including local job, training and apprenticeship opportunities and work for local suppliers.

“Appointing a local team helps ensure the deliverability of the scheme. We are all excited to be working on a project which will create valuable facilities for both residents and visitors, bringing more people into the town centre and contributing to the area’s prosperity by giving rise to a wide range of employment and training opportunities locally.”

The development will fit in with the £400 million ‘Gigaport’ scheme, The Office Corridor, with the potential over time, to create up to 3,200 jobs, retain and attract new commercial enterprises to the town.

The Midlands-based team will consist of Stepnell; Corstorphine & Wright (Architect) Nolan Associates (Engineers) RPS (QS) Rose Project Services (PM) and Wright Silverwood (Agent).

Work is anticipated to start on site in April, with the scheme due to be completed at the end of the year.
