Affordable Homes at Southview Park reach their peak

Twenty-eight brand-new affordable homes under construction at Southview Park in Trowbridge have reached their peak with the completion of new roofs.

Our Wantage construction team is building the £3.4 million development of 22 two- and three-bedroom houses and six two-bedroom apartments for affordable rent and shared ownership.

The new homes are part of Wiltshire Council’s larger development of 50 affordable homes at Southview Park which are being built across four parcels of land.
Designed by BBA architects, the new affordable homes will have high levels of thermal insulation and photovoltaic roof panels making them energy-efficient and economical to run.

“We are delighted to have reached this significant stage in the construction of this scheme which when completed will help local people find excellent quality homes at an affordable price,” says James Harris, Stepnell project manager. “We are enjoying working together with Wiltshire Council for the first time on this scheme. Construction is progressing well, and we look forward to seeing it through to completion in October this year.”

As part of its commitment to creating a safe working environment for its staff, Stepnell has provided hearing tests for subcontractors employed through the scheme. James explains: “In readiness for this years’ upgrading of rating for damage from harmful noise to a category 3 hazard by the HSE, we are proactively trialling hearing screening for all the workers on site. The touchscreen test developed by WorkScreen only takes five minutes, but it can highlight if someone has an existing hearing problem and gives us an opportunity to recommend the best suited type of ear protection that they need to be wearing on site depending on their particular roles and to help prevent any irreversible damage to their hearing.”
