Environmental

Our Environmental Management System is based on what we believe to be the areas of our business that have the potential to be harmful to the environment, including:-

Waste and Recycling
Stepnell recycle waste materials wherever there is a market for the material and space on site to segregate waste into different recycling streams.

Pollution
In accordance with good environmental practice, care will be taken at all stages of operations to prevent risk of pollution to air, water and land and ensure that the least possible damage is done to the environment around construction sites by protecting trees, wildlife, watercourses and fauna.

Sustainability
Sustainability is a product of many different factors.  At Stepnell we adopt a hierarchy which informs our design and prioritises different considerations.  In principle we consider the occupied life of a building as being of higher priority than its construction.

Procurement
We will endeavour to use building materials that originate from sustainable sources.  This includes the use of hardwoods and reclaimed products.  We will aim to reduce the environmental impact of goods and services consumed by the company.

Wildlife & Conservation
We will take into account any environmental effects.  Wildlife organisations will be contacted to ensure protected species do not inhabit the area.  If found on a site provision will be made for moving or protecting them.

Awareness and Communication
Environmental risks are often mitigated by increasing the awareness of the site personnel and visitors.  Major environmental issues will be highlighted at pre-start meetings and further at site inductions.

Training
All site employees will receive a site induction regarding the environmental hazards of the site when work on site begins and during work on site if new environmental hazards occur.
