Built in 1768, and later an integral part of the industrial revolution, the Stourport Basin suffered a steady decline in use until in 1995 a 10 year+ regeneration idea was born, with planned works starting in 2006 and finishing in 2008. Funding for this £3.3m scheme came from, British Waterways, Advantage West Midlands and the Heritage Lottery Fund and the scheme has been a catalyst for further development in the local area. The whole scheme comprised of 29 listed structures and 4 new gateways and aimed to double visitor numbers and create 70+ jobs.
George Law Ltd (Stepnell’s wholly owned subsidiary) carried out the works on behalf of Morrison Construction, British Waterways Partnership Contractor.
